CONDOLENCES & TRIBUTES

"We got the sad news and are totally devastated. I had a whole day of flashbacks of my memories with your Dad. We go back a really long time from childhood days. Our thoughts are with you all at this time of sorrow. I recall his story of how he wrangled his way to get into NZ. That's his big sacrifice for his family. Knowing how much he loved Klang. And it's so wonderful that his sacrifice has been damn worth it. Seeing how successful you all have become. It must have been a great pleasure for him to be the patriarch of this lovely family that we see in your family photos. How proud he can be! I salute this man!"

"My mother, my wife Shirley and my family sends our condolences to your mom Rita and all at home on your Dad's passing. Uncle is a word never used by me to address your father. I call him and a few others by name, Ah Chai is one of them. One of the things we did together was golf. Once he asked to go to the golf driving range together and while he was hitting the balls, he asked me to help correct his swing. I told him, Ah Chai, I can't teach Old Dogs new Tricks. You are comfortable with your helicopter swing, just go with it and...and both of us couldn't stop laughing. He will be missed, fondly by me. Bless his soul & RIP Ah Chai"

- Yap Chin Heng & family

"Victoria and I are saddened by the news of your Dad. I remembered the days when your Dad was a young man, full of life, playing tricks in the Quay Kampong. He was a prankster and getting up to lots of mischiefs. In later years especially after he retired, he mellowed and showed so much patience and pride in his children and love for his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed"

"To my dear friend Quay Ah Chai,
We have shared over 40 years as work colleagues  and the bond of trusted and loyal friendship through our chapters of life in Malaysia and New Zealand.  You have your stoic way of strength and resolve, standing up for what's right versus what you can get away with. Thank you for being there with and for me when we dared and did challenge the business and organization issues while simply wanting to make a living n bring up a family. I do remember from both pensive and lighter moments together and with others,  your aphorisms in Hokkien and Cantonese. Didn't one of our colleagues remark that when Quay speaks, the birds will fly to his palm?
Like old school of traditional humility, you were not one to boast but when you told me of your children's progress at school and then their work achievements,  there was simply the contentment of a caring parent for life.
Dear Quay and Rita, thank you for the deep and lasting friendship. Your goodwill, compassion and sharing joy all these years in an ever changing world are your greatest gifts to me. And my belief there's goodness in people.
Dear Quay, rest in peace."

"Uncle Chai's passing is still so surreal to us as he had been such a strong iconic leader figure in the whole Quay Tang family. His presence and influence was still strongly felt even after he had migrated to NZ.
We had the honor of our handsome uncle chai as our wedding car chauffeur back in 1986.  His smile, his voice and his jokes remain clear and strong in our memories.
We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers of strength and love to Aunty Rita, our cousins Caroline,  Karen, Kelvin and their families.
"May your soul rest in eternal peace,  Uncle Chai. Your love and guidance will forever remain in our hearts"

"Quay,
You were a great friend and I am deeply saddened by the news.
Rest in peace, my friend, while I cherish our moments when we were together back in Germany. I still remember the happy moments we shared-the boisterous laughters we had, the fun we enjoyed at the bowling alley and the carefree excursions to different countries in Europe together. These are all etched deeply in my mind. While it is difficult right now, the recollections of these things will serve as memories to help me to cope with the sorrow of losing a true friend.
Although you are gone, I will always remember you as a very reliable friend. You have done a great job while you were in this world and by God’s grace, you can now rest in peace"
